Life Drawing, Illustration Booklet

From contacting various graphic designers and companies I have learnt that although graphic design is very much digitally orientated and produced, traditional skills and processes are still valued and used today. I feel my life drawing work and illustrative concertina booklet show that I have good sketching and drawing skills and I regard these as valuable disciplines to have, I see these as vital in my creative process and development of design ideas.

Fashion and Textiles, 'Film Noir'

Two weeks in Fashion and Textiles taught me the importance of composition in my work, taking composition into account on a three dimensional format.  Composition is now constantly considered. In a film noir based project I have experimented with the black space around the figure allowing the viewers to conjure up their own idea of what is happening in the image.

'City Life' Project, 'The More The Merrier?'

Concepts are a vital part of my work; I believe that design should have a meaning behind it rather then just being aesthetically pleasing. My more graphical based work has strong driving conceptual ideas behind them. In a ‘City Life’ project I wanted to portray something that may seem dull and ordinary e.g. car parks, as exciting environments. I found it very ironic that these stylish new buildings were only used for storing cars, by advertising the car parks as event venues and clubs, the buildings seem vibrant and electrifying. My ‘The More The Merrier?’ piece also has a strong message, it’s aiming to raise awareness of the use of battery cages for hens and encourage the purchase of free-range products.

Ink Experimentation

At the moment I am working on an Alphabet book based on the shapes trees make with their branches. I chosen to present it in a very simple and minimalistic way with subtle changes e.g. colour, layers throughout so the viewer’s focus is not taken away from the imagery.

My main interests consist of listening and producing music, sport and graphic design, I enjoy mixing my passion for music and graphics. I have a huge interest in graphic design and a full-time course is the best way to pursue my ideal career as a graphic designer. I am really enjoying my time in education and cannot wait to get started studying at university.
